Ambassador Kirn’s Visit to Florida

Bookmark and Share

Miami, October 21 - Slovenian Ambassador to the United States, Roman Kirn, was on an official visit to Florida. The visit was organizied by Slovenian Honorary Consul, Dr. Gregory Chan, Provost at the St. Thomas University. Kirn gave lectures on Slovenia’s transition, political science, and international relations to the university students.

During his visit, Ambassador Kirn attended the opening of Slovenian contemporary art exhibit MoveMoment at St. Thomas University’s Sardinas Gallery. The exhibit in Florida was largely arranged by Dr. Chan and Sandra Zupan, a Slovenian graduate student at the university.

“Art is always a natural bridge,” said Ambassador Kirn. “We have an excellent relationship with the United States, but we know our relationship does not stop in Washington, DC.” The Ambassador said he was looking forward to introducing Slovenian works to the Miami art community and to visiting Dr. Chan, whom he called “a diligent and motivated honorary consul.”

“Slovenia needs to increase its identity,” he explained. “We hope to encourage more cooperation in the areas of education, science, trade, and tourism, to benefit the interests of everyone.”

The works were created by members of the Fine Arts Society of Ljubljana. Prior to the opening of the exhibit, the director of the Ljubljana City Museum, Aleksander Bassin, gave an informal lecture.
