Melita GabričThe Consulate General of Slovenia is pleased to welcome its new Consul General, a.i., Dr. Melita Gabrič.

Immediately prior to becoming the Slovenian Consul General a.i., Dr. Melita Gabrič served as Secretary-General of the Bled Strategic Forum, an annual international conference co-organized by the Slovenian Foreign Ministry.

Before that, she served in New York as the special advisor to the President of the 62nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Dr. Gabrič served a five-year term as a foreign affairs advisor to the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Janez Drnovšek, and four years as his foreign affairs advisor during his tenure as Slovene Prime Minister.

Previously, Dr. Gabrič worked as an EU consultant for the German and British consulting firms GVG and Birks&Sinclair during Slovenia’s accession to the European Union. She was also a co-founder of the City of Women annual international festival of modern arts, which has been taking place in Slovenia since 1994.

Joining her in New York is her husband, American author and filmmaker Michael Benson, and their son Daniel. We wish them all the best in New York and look forward to a productive and exciting term in the four years to come.
