Colorado National Guard Leadership Visited the Embassy

Washington, March 11 - The leadership of the Colorado National Guard visited the Embassy of Slovenia. The Guard officials were greeted by Defense Attaché Col. Andrej Lipar and Political Counselor Mr. Andrej Medica.

Colorado National Guard officials Visit Embassy

The National Guard delegation was led by Adjutant General of the Colorado National Guard (the highest position in the national guard) Major General H. Michael Edwards. Maj. Gen. Edwards is very familiar with Slovenia, which he visited last year.

The meeting at the Embassy was dedicated to a discussion about future cooperation between Slovenia and Colorado, which has been very intensive and fruitful in the past. The cooperation started in 1993, when the Colorado National Guard was chosen to help Slovenia in meeting the NATO standards necessary for joining the Alliance, and to support the restructuring of the Slovenian Armed Forces. During this time a very strong professional and personal relationship developed between the Colorado National Guard and the Slovenian Ministry of Defense, which is one of the reasons why both sides hope that the relationship will continue in the future.

At the meeting, some interesting ideas, not only about military, but also about possible civilian cooperation (for example, civil protection and disaster relief) between Slovenia and Colorado were presented.

The Colorado National Guard officials are regular guests at the Embassy of Slovenia in Washington, where they are always welcome.
