“Slovenka” to Hit U.S. Cinemas in Spring

Damjan Kozole’s “Slovenka” will be the first Slovenian film in general release in the United States. The film will be screened in the second quarter of the year under the title “Call Girl”. While the film will begin its U.S. tour in New York and Los Angeles in spring, U.S. audience will have the chance to see it already at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, which kicked off on Wednesday this week and will be on until January 18.

“Slovenka” is a story of 23-year-old student, Aleksandra (Nina Ivanišin), who turns to prostitution to raise money. She runs personal ads under the nickname “The Slovenian Girl” (Slovenka). 

Having to hide her secret from friends and loved ones, Aleksandra’s life gets even more complicated when one of her clients dies while with her. 

“Slovenka” was the most popular Slovenian film in 2009, having attracted over 18,000 viewers. It was also screened at 16 festivals, including those in Toronto, London, Montreal and Sao Paulo.

The film is a Slovenian-German-Croatian- Serbian co-production.
