Slovene Cultural Hour In New York:  Slovene Music In America

Bookmark and Share

Joseph ValencicAuthor, film writer, and Slovene scholar Joseph Valenčič presents his multimedia lecture on the history of Slovene music and musicians in North America. Slovenes have been a dominant force in American polka music since the 1940s. Yet Slovenes have also excelled in classical music, jazz, rock country, and even Broadway musicals. Vintage video clips, photos and recordings trace Slovene music in America from the first records produced in 1917, through Frank Yankovic, America's Polka King, to contemporary sounds and trends. The presentation is open to the public.
